Aug 2, 2008 Gracia is a small village in the middle of Barcelona. It is very difficult to go in by car and it is almost a pedestrian area. There are many shops and markets so living there is excellent if you want to avoid the tourist places. You can get everything and my favorite travel book store is there. Lots of restaurants, many with traditional Catalan cuisine, but there are as well many other places such as Greek, Syrian, Lebanese, Nepalese etc. Some restaurants have started to offer new variations, which are very interesting One movie theater (Verdi and Verdi Park) in the middle offers many movies in original language, which is a pleasure, especially if Spanish is not your first language (but it comes subtitled) Nov 15, 2008 upscale local crowd in this posh tourist-free area. A city of its own until 1897, the Gràcia neighborhood has managed to maintain its private identity, though it now boasts chic art galleries and independent-film cinemas. Dine at the luxurious Botafumeiro and you might find yourself eating next to the king of Spain.
