Oct 10, 2008 I went there 6 weeks ago and was over whelmed by the religious devotion of the ordinary people who visit this site. Overwhelemd by their belief in something so tenuous. Inside the temple there are murals that intimate the destruction of the tooth way back, centurys ago but it manifest/reappeared so they can still worship it and all it stands for. We were lucky. We had an amazing guide who made sure we got to see most things. We walked through a trio of working elephants just outside moving logs;then at home in NZ I saw an enraged elephant trying to attack its keeper and wondered if it there. The background looked remarkably similar. Jan 3, 2010 Dalada Maligava (the Temple of the Tooth), repository of a sacred Buddhist relic said to be a tooth of the Buddha, is here, and the University of Peradeniya (1942) is nearby. Kandy was the capital of a Sinhalese kingdom from 1592 to 1815, when it became one of the last sections of the island to be annexed by the British as part of colonial Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). Population (1990 estimate) 104,000. Mar 30, 2012 This is one of the most important Buddha temples as well, as relics in all over the world! The atmosphere in the inside and around is real special as monks inside pray all of the time. They gift the visitors who wish with symbolic white strips that they tie to their wrists as a sign of blessing or so.. I personally had mine on my wrist long time after I was home from the journey.. Feb 5, 2009 Ahhh, the Tooth Relic. This Temple was impressive for the gold plated fencing, the exquisite paintings and the overall vibe you get from the crowd of people wanting to catch a glimpse of the Tooth Relic. Be warned that this place can get very hot and very crowded. A popular place to visit in Sri Lanka. Related Links
