The area of the ruins is very big, and there are lots of temples inside. it is better to hire a bicycle or a tuk tuk to visit it. We got a very competent tuk tuk driver, but I guess it depends on luck. There are numerous dagobas, temples, water pond and ruins of antique monasteries. I think it's the best of the anciet cities, for it contains so many stuff to see that will allow you to have a complete idea of the ancient sites in Sri Lanka.

The city consists of 2 parts: 1 is totally calm and relaxed, with beautiful ancient ruins and stupas, while in the other part the town is still living, you can watch people's everyday life. I explored it by bike, it was amazing (:
