Mar 29, 2009 Sigiria or the Lion Rock is a 200m rock that is carved in the shape of a lion. Today only the lion’s paws are still seen. . It used to be the palace of King Kasyapa (477 – 495 AD). You go up long stairs (1500 stairs) toward the lion’s mouth and through its throat where you can see frescos of women decorating the walls. At the top there is a swimming pool. The rock is considered as a wonder of the world because nobody knows how water was pumped to top. Going upstairs is worth it, for you can see a spectacular view from the top.
