Mårbacka is the home of Selma Lagerlöf.

One of the best known authors in the world, was
born and grew up at Mårbacka. Her debut novel,
Gösta Berling´s saga in 1891 was a tremendous
success, as were Jerusalem 1902 and
The Wonderful Adventures of Nils 1906.

To crown these achievements, she became
both the first woman and the first Swede to be
awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1909. (www.marbacka.com)

Selma Lagerlöfs home in Mårbacka, not far from Sunne, is now a museum, well worth a visit. She received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1909 (the first woman ever so honored) "in appreciation of the lofty idealism, vivid imagination and spiritual perception that characterize her writings."

Beatifully restored and maintained house and gardens. Wonderful place to get a sense of such a wonderful author. You can see where she got here ideas from the house and the surrounding area, as well as the landscape and culture of Sweden.
