The big square in the Old city of Stockholm is the heart of the city's history. It was here the historical event of the Bloodbath happened. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_Bloodbath. There are also plenty of cafeterias around the square. If you visit the big square in winter, there will be a big Christmas market where you can buy swedish candy, handicraft, textile, Mulled wine or hot chocolate. It is a perfect place for a first time visitor in Sweden. Since you have so many shops and tourist information centers around.
