Gruyeres town and its castle are so medieval that the last thing you would expect to find in it is something like the Giger Museum. But then somehow it makes sense. Just go to the castle, enjoy the view and the building, as you would do in any lovely swiss castle. As you wander around, you will meet a statue of a very futuristic ET sitting by some stairs. That's the museum entrance. In front of it there's the Giger bar. Look through the window, and you will then step in: it's irresistible. And free. Now you have an idea of what you can find inside the museum. Don't miss it. Of course, the Alien is there (many of them, actually), but many other things as well, some in the same style and some not. I don't want to spoil it. Just go in. It's not scary (well, not much).

Any store or restaurants in Gruyeres have the best fondue's and never forget the "double creme de la gruyere" for desert, I've gained 5 pounds just thinking about it :-)

I had no idea this museum even existed when I visited the Castle in Gruyeres. This is the artist who inspired Aliens.
