Situated in the Bernese Alps within Switzerland, Eiger (elevation: 3 970m, 13 025 ft)  is one of three well known peaks in the region (the other two being Monch and Jungfrau).  The three are collectively known as the ogre, monk and the virgin.  It is most famous for its imposing north face (Nordwand) which was responsible for numerous deaths as climbers attempted to conquer this face.  So famous is this face that individual stretches on the wall have their own names, including "Murder Wall", "White Spider", etc.  The surrounding area is perfect for beautiful hikes.

Eiger has one of the most spectacular north faces in the Alps. Have spend hours just looking at it. The climbing is out of my league, but several of the surrounding peaks are not. Best place to observe the Eiger is from a balcony at the Romantic Hotel Schweizerhof.
