One of the most familiar mountains in the world, the Matterhorn is a pyramid shaped mountain situated in the Alps along the border of Switzerland and Italy. Its name is derived from the German words matt, meaning valley, and horn, which means peak. Rising up 4478m in height, it was first climbed by a team led by Edward Whymper in 1865. Since then, it has been a popular destination for many aspiring alpinists. It's easy access and close proximity to the village of Zermatt means that the mountain can be tackled within a two day period. This of course, makes it a very crowded climb, increasing the difficulty and potential danger. The climb is considered a technical climb with a rating of AD, and requires a lot of endurance. Most climbers start at the Hörnli Hut before making a midnight ascent.

The Matterhorn is accessed via the Schwartze cable car, followed by a hiking path leading to the Hörnli Hut.

what to say about Zermatt? it is definitely a place which kept its genuine aspect! the view from Cornergrat is breathtaking. especially now (ive been there last weekend!) where it is getting warm but we are surrounded by white pure snow. the fact that no car is allowed up there makes it special and relaxing. we went to the "petit Hotel" and the overnight was nice since the hotel had a roof top where there is a pleasant view from the village + Matterhorn. Priceless....

It is one of the famous mountain in Europe, maybe in the world, and its shape is easily recognizable.... you can find it on a chocolate box named Toblerone. In French, the name of this
mountain is LE CERVIN.... and Zermatt, the town from where you go to the Matterhorn is a small town where no car is allowed. Only horses ......

one of the most beautiful places on earth (to me anyways) is the most beautiful in the evening hours, right at sunset. i dont like the tourism part of the deal (going there) so i tend to go to family or something to the mountain for what it really is.

It is said to be the world's most popular mountain, and even if it isn't the highest one, its shape is definitely the coolest. The Toblerone chocolate takes it shape from Matterhorn.
