To get to Nei-Wan, you can go by bus or train from the center of Hsin-Chu; it is at the terminus of the inland spur railway, so if you ride that train to the end, you cannot go wrong.  When you see Nei-Wan written in Chinese characters, you can see the "nei" means "inside" and the "wan" -- the same "wan" character used to write Taiwan -- means a bay or other curved shoreline.  In this case, it refers to the riverbank: Nei-Wan means the inner bend of the river.  Beautiful countryside in the mountains, lots of rice paddies.  It was here, near the suspension bridge, I found the empty shell of a Swinhoe's land snail, a species unique to Taiwan.

Neiwan Old Street brings back nostalgia of the 1960s. A rather underrated area in Hsinchu with minimal tourist. Have lunch at the Old Neiwan Cinema and stroll along the suspension bridge.

It is a river side of the mountain, with the old street market where you can buy a lot of traditional food and other souvenirs. If you have friend there you can even go for a river side BBQ and going down to take a river shower. In april season you can find even lighting bugs flying.
