Gombe Stream National park, situated on the western border of Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is famously known as the habitat for Jane Goodall's research and study of chimpanzes.  The chimpanzeese here are part of a long running behavioural research program in operation since the 1960's.   Other primates in the area include olive baboons, and colobus monkeys.   Situated on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, this small, but beautiful park remains wild and rugged.  From one boundary near the lakeshore to mountainous terrain and ridges on the other side, the park comprises 13 steep valleys and swift flowing streams that run from the east to west.  The elevation ranges between 773 metres above sea level to over 1500 metres.  There are no roads here, and access is by chartered flight.  The thick forest canopy and extensive trail network makes for days of fascinating exploration and trekking.
