i dont understand how the last reviewer given what he just said could give this place only one star.
Stone Town as well as Zanzibar as a hole is both exotic and beautiful at the same time, magnificent and magical, in fact I'd like to move there some day. not only because of the delicious food and beauty but also because of the friendly and relaxed attitude.
(I spent 3 months living in Tanzania as a volunteer for a public school in Dar es Salaam. I went twice to Zanzibar in my time there; the first for one weekend and the second for 5 days. Zanzibar is an adorable place. if you can and are interested you should most definatly go there.

This a wonderfull place to visit and find the big gap difference.The people are more than friendly,Nice and best beaches,quiet place to relax,exotic and unique island traditions,high safety and very social locals who ever lead you the way if lost.I recommend all to visit.

Cool - but the street touts are extra aggressive. Worth visiting for a day or two - then get out of town to one of the beach resorts. The Kempinski was phenomenal.
