Wat Phra Mahathat
About Wat Phra Mahathat
These temple ruins are very beautiful despite the extensive damaged it sustained during the Burmese invasion. They contain a famous image of the Buddha - a stone-carved Buddha head completely enveloped by the roots of a tree growing over top of the ruins.

Oct 4, 2011 I was told by the guide that every former capital of Thailand had a "Wat Mahathat". The old Ayutthaya Kingdom is no exception. This temple is part of the huge historical park which can easily take half a day to explore on foot. The enigmatic headless Buddhas and the famous Buddha head growing in the roots of a banyan tree is a perfect description of the words "ancient ruins". May 13, 2010 This place gave me goosebumps!! the history here is amazing and the temple ruins are so beautiful in an eerie way. A turbulet history is clearly evident here and if you're interested it's a hell of a story ... Certainly well worth a visit! ... Also the local stalls and street vendors sell extremly tasty local delights! Don't be afraid to try it!! :) Oct 8, 2011 Is a worth of going and one hour away from Bangkok and after seeing the ruins you can have a lunch or dinner by the river kwai. The restaurants near offer a good thai food.
