About Democracy Monument
This monument is a large Art Deco-style structure comprising of 4 stylised angel wings set in the center of a traffic circle. It was erected in 1932 to commemorate Thailands move from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional one. The monument was designed by Italian artist Corrado Feroci, Thailand's "father of modern art" who also taugh at the Silpakorn University as professor Silpa Bhirasri. Feroci placed 75 cannon balls in the base of the monument to signify the the year in which the monument was built (the year 1932 translates to 2475 according to the Buddhist calander).

This monument is located in the center of the traffic circle formed at the intersection of Thanon Ratchadamnoen Klang and Thanon Din So. The nearest pier on the Chao Phraya river is the Tha Phra Athit. Bus lines no. 511, 512 and 44 all pass by it.

Sep 20, 2009 I did not purposely set out to see this great monument, In fact, my tuk-tuk driver pointed it out to me and upon realizing what it was, I asked him to circle back around and stop. I was glad I did. It is a beautiful monument and an important piece of Thailand's history. tips: Take your camera Be careful of the traffic Visit in the early evening Good Journeys!
