Khao San Road
About Khao San Road
Khao San Road is a three block long street s located about a block from the Chao Phraya River northwest of downtown Bangkok.
It is most well known as being the center of the backpacker/budget traveler universe in Bangkok. There are few historical sights here, but it is a good place to see backpacker culture and meet other travelers. Payment Accepted:

Sep 30, 2007 Sorry guys, but this place is awful. Half the food stalls serve Pad Thai by mixing peanut butter, ketchup and lime in with some noodles, and you can't get from one side of the road to the other without being accosted by touts shouting at you from every direction. It's so weird how everything immediately improves the moment you step off Khao San (the food quality in the areas immediately surrounding Khao San are great). Now there definitely are advantages to being near Khao San because you can pretty much find anything under the sun there, but I'll only enter that street if I really need to. Dec 22, 2009 If you think the movie The Beach was a great movie then you owe it to yourself to want to come to this place and at least for one night experience it and it will be more like an adventure then just a end all destination. It is a Great Place for Farangs to Hang out with other Farangs. If you don't know what that word is and you were not born in Thailand then hate to share with you but you are a FARANG. There are plenty of Thai there don't get me wrong but it is mostly a place for Back Packers to get Cheap Hotels and hang out with others who share your adventurous spirit. For as low as $10 a night you can rent a room for yourself to enjoy and the place is up all night long. Personally I dont think there is not something going on at any time of the day. Hope you Enjoy the place and do share your adventures with us fellow travelers. May 8, 2009 What can you say about this travelling Mecca! One of few "cliched" travel spots where it really doesn't matter. Travel is such a huge part of the area that it has become a huge part of the culture. It's more of a symbiotic relationship than a destruction of authenticity. The best T-shirts in the world, if hilarity is your thing. Cool bars, great food and the best of atmospheres. Been here 3 times over a short period and loved it everytime! Class the tuk tuk stops as a free tour rather than a pain to get a cheaper price, EAT the fried insects, watch the amazing street performers, thumb wrestle a 10 year old, have a bucket or maybe more and embrace the experience. If your a "real" traveller and you want your senses flooded then look no further than true highway of the backpacking world! May 7, 2010 suuupppeerrr cool place especially in the evening. khaosan is famous for tourist looking for affordable place to stay when in thailand. most of the budget to mid-range hotels ans guesthouses can be found here. travel agencies, trip booking and arrangement can be done in this part of the city. khaosan glitters at night, with the street turned to a night bazaar for all finds. prices varies and some what higher compared to other shopping areas of bangkok due to high tourist concentration. drinking bars and restaurant are abundant here. khaosan is also near chao phraya river, sanam luang park (the royal fields), the famous grand palace, to name a few. Apr 10, 2011 Maybe it was the wrong time of day( mid afternoon) but the place was quite empty. The people around were mostly touts and vendors of the food stalls and other types of stalls. It's not quite what I had expected after reading about it in the guide books and other reviews. I saw better and tastier looking street food in other parts of Bangkok. There are plenty of travel agencies and internet places around. A young Israeli traveller who helped me with directions to Khao San Road told me that he thought it an uninteresting place and not much to see. just lots of noise and people.
