Settlement
This island is home to one of Thailand's oldest settlements of Mon people - who dominated the area between the 6th and 10th  centuries.  The island is car-free and offers visitors a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok's metropolitan streets.  It is located on the city's northern edge in the middle of the Chao Phraya river.  Potery shops abound on this island as its Mon inhabitants are expert potters.  There is also a Mon-style Buddhist temple called Wat Paramai Yikawat (but more commonly refered to as Wat Mon) on the north-eastern corner of the island.  The temple contains a Mon-style marble sculpture of the Buddha.
