Wat Suthat
About Wat Suthat
This wat is run by the Brahman priests that help perform Thailand's Royal Ploughing ceremony at Sanam Luang and perform rites at 2 Hindu Temples located nearby. It's main wihaan houses a number of bronze statues of the Buddha, including one of the largest surviving Sukhothai-period bronze statues (Phra Si Sakaymuni). The temple also has a red arch known as Sao Ching-Cha (which translates to "giant swing"). In the past it was used as a swing in a brahman festival where individuals would try to swing up to a 15 meter high banboo pole with a sac of gold attached to its top. This festival was stopped due to the fact that many people died in their attempts to grab the gold.
