This national park is Thailand's largest protected area covering an area of over 3200 square kilometers, including 1500 square kilometers of the forested area surrounding Khao Laem reservoir. Its forest habitats include mixed deciduous, hill evergreen and dry evergreen forests, housing a wide variety of animals, including bears, tigers, elephants, boars, sambar deer, barking deer, as well as many different bird species.  Steep limestone mountains line the park's terrain, forcing a number of rivers to form waterfalls before feeding into the Khao Laem resevoir. The Dai Chong Thong Waterfall and the Kreng Kravia Waterfall with that has cave behind it are among its most impressive. The Khao Laem  resevoir is the starting point of of Kwai Noi river.

This huge reservoir was formed when a dam was built on the Mae Nam Khwae Noi river in 1983.  An entire village was submerged as a result of the flooding.  Some of the spires of this village's temple (Wat Sam Prasop) stick out above the water during the dry season.  Canoes can be rented, and long-boats with pilots can be hired for longer trips.
