This marine park encompases the mountainous jungle island of Ko Chang as well as several of its surrounding islands.  Ko Chang's interior is one of the best preserved rainforests in all of Southeast Asia and home to a wide variety of macaques, snakes and lizards as well as tropical fruit trees.  It's highest point is at Khao Jom Prasat at 744 meters above sea level and its shores are lined with beaches, small fishing villages, hidden bays and coves.  Unfortunately, this pristine setting is slowly being developed into a luxury-tourist destination with new resorts popping up every year.  It is already equiped with a wide range of lodging, several internet cafes, a hopsital, a medical clinic, a post office and even its own police office.

Getting there:
The main way of getting to Ko Chang is by ferry from Laem Ngop just 20km west of Trat (the main pier in Laem Ngop is the Tha Dan Kao pier). The ferry ride itself takes about one hour and costs between 30 and 50 Baht depending on the operator.

Koh Chang is the second largest island of Thailand, located on the Thai east coast 310 km away from Bangkok near the border to Cambodia in the Gulf of Thailand. It is a mountainous island with several waterfalls and rainforest. The island is part of the Mu Ko Chang Marine National Park. During World War II, Ko Chang was the scene of a naval battle between the Royal Thai Navy and a Vichy France squadron, in which the Thais were decisively beaten.
