This is Ko Samui's longest and most popular beach stretching for 6 kilometers along the island's east coast.  Its waters are clear blue-green and contain some coral reefs that are great to snorkle around.  Beach chairs have been made available for free, and food and drink vendors abound.  Visitors can engage in all sorts of water sports.  The main street running along this beach is full of hotels, restaurants, clubs and bars.

Chaweng Beach is not to be missed, be it the fine, white sand, or the crystal blue waters. It is peaceful and serene, but still offers the conveniences you need such as fresh coconut and beach-grilled corn on the cob. The perfect place to relax, people watch, and work on your tan!

To touristy if you ask me. It's all about booze, sex, drugs and too many tourists. There are better places to go to in Thailand.

It's true. Made last september '08 to Thailand, first trip ever. Went to Ko Samui. Stayed at First Bungalow Beach Resort and First House Resort. Very quiet, not to busy on the beaches, not to many kids. Totaly different than the Chaweng Beach Street with all those sellers and stuff you don't need in your real world. Met the owner of a little primitive place on that beach where I stayed. His nam is 'Dam'. He became a 'buddy' while we were there. We could grab our own drinks, eat all day and pay before we went to bed in the night. Also went to the Samui Stadion for some real Thai Boxing. Awesome experience. Food is everywhere different in price. So take your time to find a place you want to eat and compare the menu's. But hey, what is 80BTH for a Ko Phat Kung? I will tell you.. Nothing ;-)

Koh Samui is a great island retreat - Chaweng, not so much. We rented a scooter and drove through one day but it's too busy and noisy for us.   We much prefered Bo Phut and the Fisherman's village area where we stayed right on the beach.  Off season rates were great and it wasn't crowded.
