The beach at Kartong is beautiful and totally un-touristy.  You will find no bumsters.  I laid on the beach all day and saw no one save some cows and the owner of the guest house who came to ask what I wanted for dinner.  There is one great place to stay and there may be a couple of places being built.  There are hammocks to lounge in.  You can stay in a little guesthouse/room or sleep on a platform in the open air, or pitch a tent.  This place is a gem!

Getting there:
Kartong is a little fishing village right on the southernmost tip of the coast.  It is bordered on the south by a river, and if you cross it you are in Guinea-Bissau. Unless you are on a super budget, it's easiest to take a town trip or rent a car.  Otherwise, the best bet is probably the Bundung car park - but you will have to transfer.

If you spend any time at all in The Gambia, Kartong is a must.  It is especially nice if you want a break from the bumsters at the beach and tourists in Senegambia.
