Description:
Mt Agou is located 20kms southeast of Kpalime and, at 986m, is the highest mountain in the immediate area.  While it is possible to walk up the mountain, without a guide it's very difficult to find the way.  The other option is to take a taxi-moto to the top of the mountain and then walk back down.  This is still a fair hike and will take you a couple of hours.  There is a paved road that runs all the way to the top of the mountain but there are also hundreds of little tracks straight down the side that will take you through tiny little local villages and farming areas.  Try to coordinate the hike for a clear day if you can so that you get the most out of the views, but even on an overcast/cloudy day wandering down through the local villages still makes it a wonderful walk.

I got thoroughly lost trying to find my way up the mountain and was told by the locals that it wasn't possible to walk up so in the end I got a taxi-moto up to the top and walked down, where I met two groups of people who had just walked up!  They had guides though so maybe that's the trick.  Still the walk down was surprisingly difficult and took me a couple of hours through farming land and little villages.  The locals were very amused to see me wandering by myself and often I had a group of children in tow demanding photos.  I thoroughly enjoyed my wander back down and was tired enough by the time I got to the bottom to be grateful I didn't manage to find my own way up!
