Oct 8, 2008 The Pitch lake is a 90-acre lake of tar in southern Trinidad. It looks like a parking lot until you step on its spongy, yielding surface. The lake oozes, bubbles and burps, swallowing objects then spitting them back out. The lake surface looks like elephant skin, it's hard enough to walk on, but peel back the upper surface and it's sticky and fluid. The Rastafarian guide there has great knowledge of the lake and will show you around. One of the neat things he does is pull ribbons of tar up with a stick. Apr 30, 2009 Not even the Trinidadians recognise this treasure!!! It is a must see! This is a must do when you visit Trinidad. If you decide to take the walking tour, dress in clothing that will keep you cool, and nothing too fancy. Wear short pants, or capris and beach shoes because you will walk through part of the lake. The tour can become extremely hot, so take cold water to drink. Also, take the tour, the guides are full of great information. Related Links
