Every year Douz is the center of the International Festival of the Sahara. It's a 4 day event where traditional desert culture stands central. Usually they hold it in November or December and features traditional music and dancing, camel and horse races.

Great this place is so surreal... it's the real Gate To The Desert. Go there and you'll know why. And if you get the chance to see the festival it will be even more interesting and will give you strange sensations not usual to western citizens.
