Description:
This underground city is a vast complex of connecting tunnels and rooms with false passageways, booby traps, ventilation shafts and more.  They were built by the people living in this area durring ancient times, some believe as far back as the time of the Hittites.  When all was well these cave-dwellers would live in villages above the ground to farm the land, but when invaders would arrived they would lock themselves inside their underground cities.  This particular city goes 7 levels down reaching a depth of over 60 meters below the ground.
Getting there:
The entrance to this underground city is in the center of Derinkuyu town, about 100 kilometers south of Kaymakli.

This site was very interesting. I was felt a little clostrophobic, but I as able to get down into some of the deepest, smallest rooms in the cave complex. I especially liked the enormous stone doors they would roll into place to lock out the enemy.
