This Byzantine-era Greek Orthodox monsatery is built right on a cliff  in the mountains overlooking dense evergreen forest and the Black Sea.  The site can have an eerie character as mist or fog often swirls in on the forest land below.  The monastery underwent a period of abandonment starting in 1923 and the actual buildings are in the process or restoration (some would say rebuilding) so those looking to see the ruined remains of original structures will surely be dissapointed.

Getting there:
This monastery is located up mountainous hills about 46 kilometers south of Trazbon.  Buses run between the city and the monastery from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.  It is also possible to get a taxi to take a load of people the the monastery and back for 30-35 USD with a 2 hour limit on waiting at the monastery.  A steep (but safe) trail leads up to the monastery from below, as well as a second, less-used trail leading from farther up the road.

Amazing views, a nice hike up and beautiful frescoes. Worth the time it takes to get there and back. If you drive, you can pass through the parking area at the bottom and drive up farther to a small parking lot. Watch young children on the trail.
