The ancient and still-functioning Kyiv-Pechery Monastery (Lavra) was founded in the 11th century and is the oldest and most important religious site in Kyiv.  Most of the buildings date to the 17th-18th centuries, although there are some older gems.  One highlight is the 12th century Holy Trinity Gate Church, which contains some outstanding frescoes and is the entrance to the monastery.  The Refractory Church of Ss. Anthony & Theodosius is another highlight with its large golden-striped dome.

In addition to the many churches, there are several museums on the monastery grounds that focus on Ukrainian history.  These include the Museum of Books and Bookmaking, the Micro-Miniature Museum, and the Museum of Historical Treasures of Ukraine.  Opening hours are typically 10am – 5pm daily for these museums, although they may be closed on certain days of the week.

The monks of the monastery were mummified and stored in niches in the caves at the monastery.  You can visit and view dozens of them in their glass topped coffins.

Women should cover their heads and maybe not shorts or tight pants. Sometimes men are not allowed in churches if they are in shorts higher up than the calves. Thick smell of burning candles so watch it so that you don't faint. Other than that, it's a nice place to take pictures and to listen about religion in Ikraine

The heart of the Christian Orthodox Church. Beautiful churches and monastery on the banks of the Dnieper. Allow yourself plenty of time to see the Lower Caves - crypt temples. Be sur to dress appropriately as this is a place of worship, not a tourist site

It is one of the places worth visiting while staying in Kiev. Very important for the orthodox christian people, it still has an extraordinary atmosphere that could be felt by everyone, no matter of what religion are you.
