Anyone who goes to Dubai has to do the Desert Safari Excursion. It is the best way to get an insight to the interior of the country and an introduction of the Arab bedouins way of life. You get picked up on a 4x4 vehicle, the drivers are very experienced (and insured by the way). You get entertained with some fabulous driving on sand-dunes that can also get rather hair raising. It somewhat gives you an adrenaline rush. By sunset you get driven to a desert camp far into the interior where a lovely buffet is waiting for you. You get a chance to ride a camel and and do some sand dune boarding closely watched by an expert. It is all fun. After you fill your bellies with the buffet a belly dancer will strutt her stuff for a good 40minutes whilst you can get get a temporary tattoo by a henna artist. It is a far cry from Dubai city centre and you get to see how and where the bedouins live. It is really really interesting. However it is not cheap - cost = £35 ($70) per head but well worth a try.

For an adrenaline pumped excitement, Desert safari provides a great value for money. Typically, a safari would include camel rides, belly dancing, barbecue, drinks at sunset but clearly, the highlight has to be the dune bashing in 4x4 cars. Driven by expert drivers who know their sand like the bedouins, they provide a great experience of a lifetime. Climbing up on almost flat faced cliffs and racing down ravines, can be chilling and definitely, not for the faint hearted. Caution: people with neck and heart problems should stay away from dune bashing. The rest of the experience can be still be worth doing for an experience of a desert life. Apply sun-tans and take sun protective measures.

My first time in Dubai was back in 99...I can remember seeing lots of sand and open space while driving on Sheikh Zayed Road between Jebel Ali and Bur Dubai...the city grew fast in 10 years, now there's tall buildings, giant malls and communities everywhere. Nice place to visit if you come between November - May...forget about coming here in the summer months...it's very humid and the temp can get up to 55C or more.

Combination of different activities and arab hospitality make the 5 hours safari great. The view of the sands during sunset makes you appreciate their beauty more than when there is a sandstrom :) MUST DO when in arab country!
