While it's not the most exciting of places, it's good for families. There are many shops which sell all kinds of inflatables, a small pier with some arcades, amusements and shops and other small shops dotted about nearby. I always had a good time there as a child, and the sea is reasonably clean for Britain! The waves generally aren't too strong, but there are times when it's better for surfers. It's also quite close to Clacton Golf Club, if you want to get away from the family for a while.
