White Cliffs of Dover
About White Cliffs of Dover
The first sight that many visitors to England see is the white chalk cliffs of Dover. This was also the last sight that many soldiers saw of England before sailing off to the Continent. As the Strait of Dover is the narrowest part (30km) of the English Channel, this has long been a primary crossing point to or from France. The development of the Channel Tunnel and the Eurostar line has taken away some business from the Calais – Dover ferry ride, but the ferries remain a popular option.
The cliffs reach up to 350 ft high, stretch 16 km long, and are composed of a mixture of white chalk and streaks of black flint. Hiking and biking are popular activities to do along the cliffs. Payment Accepted:

Oct 17, 2008 The scene is magnificent. The ocean beautiful. On a clear day you can see Calais, France. You are standing as close to the English Channel possible without being on the water itself. Great trip to take. Be sure to take a light sweater or jacket. It can be windy. Sep 10, 2008 In the Cliffs there is the coolest 2. world war museum, and you can see the old tunnels, think they dates back to 1700 something somthing, it's an amazing experience seeing all of the left overs from the war.... Besides there is a beautiful view of the sea from the Cliffs.. =) :) Oct 11, 2008 The White Cliffs of Dover are very interesting and the best view (as long as it's a clear day) is from the harbor...take one of the harbor tours and see the entire area from the water. They only last about an hour, so you have plenty of time to see other things if you wish.
