The park is named after a hospital that originally existed on the site in the thirteenth century. In the past it was been used by Henry VIII – who built the palace of St. Jame’s - as a deer park, by Elizabeth I for festivals and gatherings, and by James I, who improved the drainage and improved the water supply. The park was dramatically redesigned by Charles II and opened to the public during his reign. Payment Accepted:

Apr 22, 2010 St. Jame's Park is one of my favorite parks in London, mostly because it's a beautiful place, but it also has a lot to do with the pelicans that live there. For over 300 years there have been pelicans in the park, and I believe there are 5 currently calling the park home. Pelicans in themselves aren't overly exciting, but when I saw a youtube video of a pelican in St. Jame's Park eating a pigeon I figured I had to check it out for myself! Still haven't seen it happen in person, but I always go for a visit just in case! Oct 30, 2009 Great place to unwind. Though seems to be an awful lot of aggressive Muslim youth around. Real obnoxious and quite rude to their women. Their yelling and arguing ruins a tranquil respite from a day of exploring London Jun 11, 2008 St James Park is a beautiful place where we can meet a lot of different people. It's a peacefull place where squirrels and ducks live next to people who go for a walk or come to have a rest there.
