The Lake District has inspired many poets and writers (such as Wordsworth, Coleridge, and Southey) with its outstanding landscape, which is among the best in England. There are many impressive peaks and crags (among England’s highest) and 16 major lakes in this area, most of which falls into the Lake District National Park, which is the largest in Great Britain.
Within the park is the longest lake in England (16km Lake Windermere) and Wordsworth’s home in Grasmere, as well as other sights such as Beatrix Potter’s house at Hill Top. Sep 6, 2009 My wife and I drove through the Lake District on our way from Manchester to Dunkeld, Scotland. It was a beautiful drive. We both agreed that at some future time, we would set aside some time to give this area its due. Good Journeys!
