Windsor Castle is the largest inhabited castle in the world and is also one of the main residences for the Queen (often used for state visits).   The initial wooden castle was started in 1070, although this was later rebuilt in stone.

Inside Windsor Castle, you can see the opulent State Apartments, the fantastically detailed Queen Mary’s Dollhouse (all of three feet tall), and St. George’s Chapel (with its royal tombs and heraldic emblems).   Other areas of interest would be the collection of medieval armour and the Changing of the Guard.

It is amazing the way History can take you all the way back to the Middle Ages at Windsor. It is the summer home of Queen Elizabeth II, but that is not the point. You may find there all sorts of armor that were used by knights, you can see the tomb of King Richard III, Lion-hearted. The Queen´s guards won´t even blink no matter what you do! They are like statues. In the surroundings of the castle you may find very nice souvenirs from small shops.

It's a medieval castle and royal residence in Windsor in the English county of Berkshire, notable for its long association with the British royal family and its architecture.
The Long Walk, a double lined avenue of trees, runs for 5km south of the castle, and is 75m wide.
I'm quite sure that almost everyone saw a picture taken from the beginning of the Long Walk with the Castle on it's end.

The castle is great and still used by the Queen, if the flag is raised it means she is there. When you go inside you can see all the rooms which have weapons and all the shields of nights, the also have the changing of the guard which is very cool as they will sometimes play modern music. The church has some great history to it as well.

Although at that time it was closed, the exterior of the castle was simply breath-taking. A quintessential place especially for those who really admire and appreciate history. Plus, souvenir shops are aplenty. And Legoland, the famous theme park made only of legos, is just a few miles away.

Take some time to drop by Windsor Castle and admire (or hate) all the British opulence you'll find there. Who knows, perhaps you may be lucky (or unlucky) enough to wave hello to our "dear" queen...
