Stained Glass
The awe-inspiring York Minster is a massive Gothic church that is 160 metres long, 76 metres across, and 60 metres tall to the top of its towers.  It’s the largest medieval church in Northern Europe, and took 252 years to build (1220 to 1472).  Included is the largest collection of medieval stained glass in England, including the 15th century scenes from Genesis and Revelation in the Great East Window.  As well, its 13th century Chapel House is still in use as a meeting place for church leaders, and there is an interesting crypt and a treasury containing pieces from the last 1000 years.  As to be expected, the views from the central tower are excellent.

Fantasic and very old Gothic church where you can climb the 99 steps to the top if you are feeling in an energetic mood....hehe The town has one of the oldest streets in the UK called "The Shambles" it has been restored and has many places for tourists to purchase items. Well worth a visit is the viking museum which boasts an origional viking ship discovered in the area. The city is protected by the fort and it still has walls around the city. Great pubs, hotels, food and entertainment. Fantastic day out or stay longer, just do not be from Scotland as there is still a law to kill on sight.......hahaha such is history.

The York Minster is one of the most beautiful structures in York. It has a war memorial inside on the left side and a interesting astronomical clock giving moon phases, etc. The bosses on the ceilings are worth taking a closer look at if you have binoculars or a good zoom lens. The steps leading to the tower are well worth a climb and you get a great view from the top.

It's absolutely gorgeous! The only thing I can think of rivaling it's beauty is West Minster. You can spend hours walking around in there and never get bored. There is always some new detail to discover. I only regret that I didn't go to a service there. I heard they were amazing, especially the choir.

I could have spent a whole day looking about the Minster! Going to the top of the roof is a must, the view is amazing, and I could imagine what it was like to look down across York in it's earlier days. York Minster is amazing!

Try to go when there is less people, maybe in the evening and see if you can get in an Evensong as well (times are posted outside, should be about 4-5pm). The walk up the stairs is well worth it as the views are great.
