So brilliant I've been there twice and nearly peed myself both times! Mary King's is one of many closes hidden beneath the current streets of Edinburgh . Instead of tearing down the old buildings, they just built right over the top of them. Visitors go underground and walk through various building, apartments, and closes hearing stories about the plaque and various residents that lived in this particular close. One of its most famous residents is little Annie--the ghost of a little girl who lived in the close. Tourists bring toys and money to leave for Annie (these are eventually donated--Annie has raised over 10,000GBP for a Edinburgh children's hospital) Mary King's Close has made it on many lists for the World's top haunted places...if you enjoy the history of Edinburgh and being scared silly, this place is for you!

I went on this tour on my own, around Halloween. I always, for some reason, ended up being the person at the end of the line while we were on the tour, and let me tell you, it’s creepy!! I was scared senseless, and I really didn’t think I would be! There are lots of myths and legends about Mary Kings Close – like how when the plague broke out they sealed off the entrances to keep it from spreading and that’s how the place came to be haunted – and whether or not they hold any truth doesn’t really matter because you’ll still get spooked down there either way! It was really interesting and definitely worthwhile!

Maybe the most spine-chilling place I've ever been! Walking through the streets of medieval Edinburgh... nothing scary you think? Have yourself a go down there... it's the ancient city below todays blocks and avenues... surrounded by complete darkness...
The guides are fantastic! Guiding you through the labyrinth of streets and lanes, telling you the story of dead Mary King, who once lived in ancient Edinburgh... scary, really scary!
You find the entry to Mary King's Close in a library... and it's worth every single penny of the entrance fee! A must-have-seen in Scotland's capital city...

If you like creepy places, this one is great!!! I also recently saw the folks on Ghost Hunters gettin freaked out in the very rooms I spent time in down there.....all I have to say is...the older the underground, the creepier it is.....

Loved it! Great tour for a rainy day, very spooky but totally cool. One of my best memories of me and dad! Who knew there was a whole city under the city!!! Go see it!
