Loch Ness is famous for being the home of Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster.  This legendary sea monster has reportedly been seen throughout the years since the 6th century.  Most descriptions have put Nessie at roughly 40 feet in length, but indisputable evidence of her existence has so far proved to have been elusive.

Loch Ness is also the largest (volume) freshwater lake in Great Britain, largely due to its 230 meter depth.  It is a beautiful place in its own right, and the lochside ruins of Urquhart Castle add to its atmosphere.

First thing that comes to my mind when I listen LOCH NESS is about NESSIE " the kind and friendly sea monster that lives underwater... Hahah seriously Inverness is just plain beautiful... nice and warm people, arquitecture is just amazing, the lakes are breathakingly wonderful... I can go on and on... I just say people should take the time to experience more about what Inverness can offer to tourists...

Just an amazing Loch. Bigger and deeper than all the rest with very accessible tours and boat rides. Make sure you go during the summer it is rare to find a clear and calm day during winter though it can be done if lucky. Did a day tour from Glasgow and saw all the highlands and the Lochs for quite a reasonable price.

The monster makes this place famous, but I didn't see it. To me, what is more interesting is that the north side of the lake is a part of the North American Plate, left over from the days of Pangea, while the European Plate is on the south side.

Loch Ness is a can't miss place if you're in the Scottish Highlands. It is lovely. Plus there is all the mystery with Nessie that you just have to take a look for yourself. Since it is a lake, you can look at it for free, so it is good for anyone's budget.

One of those places that you have to visit while you're in Scotland! A pretty lake, although it was rainy windy the day that I was there. Would recommend it, although I wish the weather had been a bit better the day that I was there!
