 Cardiff Castle was primarily built in the 19th century, although it does contain a 12th century stone keep.  The very wealthy (they once owned a large part of Cardiff) third Marquess of Bute is responsible for creating the new castle along with the architect William Burges.   Located in the middle of Cardiff, this castle has a unique interior design that can be described as medieval fantasy or Gothic Revivalist.  Romanesque, Gothic, and Arab influences are present in the grand and gilded interior.

An excellent place with lots of history. There is an excellent audio guide as well as a tour of the modern castle rooms. There is also a interesting introductory film. It is quite close to the train station so it can be a good first stop in Cardiff, taking up a morning or longer.

I liked it there a lot. Even though it isn't very big castle, you could see a lot in the museum. I loved the gardens around the castle.

Cardiff Castle is worth the visit. Shame when I visited it it was under reform works...
