Conwy Castle was started under Edward I during the same period (late 13th century) as Caernarfon Castle with the same designer (Master James of St. George).  It is certainly a contender for the title of most impressive castle in Wales, and is one of the leading medieval castles in all of Europe.  The town of Conwy is also surrounded on three sides by well-preserved 35 ft high stone walls that were built at the same time as the castle.   Visitors can walk on top of part of the wall (nearly 1 mile in length) and also explore some of the remaining medieval buildings in Conwy.

We stumbled on this castle completely by accident. We were driving through the fog and in the dark and then all the sudden it was right in front of us! We stayed in a BB across the street and spent the next morning exploring the castle and climbing the towers. It's a beautiful castle, and the views from the top of the towers are breath-taking! It's not hard to tell why this was considered one of Edward I's grandest castles!

Nice 13th century castle on the north coast of wales. Built under Edward I . The castle is divided into an inner and an outer ward, separated by a thick wall, and at each end, one of eight flanking towers. Stepping on one of the towers gets you a perfect view of the castles surroundings.

Amazing, everything you want out of a castle. Towering over Conwy and reaching out to envelope the town itself with its impressive walls, it proudly proclaims its splendour.

This is an amazing medieval castle in a picturesque little walled medieval town on the coast and in the hills of wales. Beautiful!

Absolutely beautiful! I would recommend going in the Spring or Summer. We went in November, and it was rainy and bitterly cold.
