Description:
This massive world-famous gorge reaches a depth of over 1600 meters, varies in width from 6.4 to 29km, and goes on for a total of 446km. It was carved by the Colorado River over a period of 6 million years. As the canyon runs east-west, visitors can approach the canyon either of its sides.
The South Rim is the most popular and is open 24/7. There is a park headquarters andvisitor center at Grand Canyon Village , as well as the Grand Canyon Skywalk just a bit farther on. From there, the east rim and west rim drives skirt the canyon's edge with several lookout points to stop at and appreciate the view. You can also hike the 8-mile rime trail.
The North Rim gets fewer visitors, and its facilities close down from between late October and mid-May. The main building there is theGrand Canyon Lodge , a rustically castle-like hotel with fantastic views from its dining rooms and terraces. Bright Angel Point , considered to be the best lookout point for appreciating sunrises and sunsets is located just a few hundred meters from the lodge. There is also a hiking trails that lead deep down into the canyon, connecting with trails leading back up the South Rim.

This is the place where you become aware of the finite-ness (is that a word?) of your eyes. There is so much to take in but your eyes can only take in so much. Absolutely breathtaking. Be sure to go to the Painted Desert too. It's another one of God's wonders that is sooo amazing. By the way, commercialism has struck there too. But it's still worth going to.

I loved it!!! One of the most breathtaking places I've ever been. I'll certainly go back again there but then for a little bit longer so that I can hike down the canyon. If you don't like nature or landscapes then this is nothing for you, but if you love nature, walking etc.. then this is definitely a place to go to...

The Grand Canyon is defiantly a place you should go before you die. I have been on both the South and North rims and I would say the North is a lot less crowded. It's higher elevation so it's closed in the winter but if you are there in the summer and want a better experience go to the North Rim

One of nature's most fascinating wonders. Geology geeks will go nuts for this ancient canyon. If you can get to the more remote areas and do some camping it is really something special. We stayed over night just on the edge of the canyon and there was no one around, it was magic.

You don't need anyone telling you that you should go there. It really is incredible. And massive. Drawback it is in the middle of nowhere and it takes ages to get there and it's hot. Really hot.

Well worth booking a flight over the canyon if possible. Includes a bus trip to the best view points, a movie about the history of the canyon and lunch of course!

Be there to see the sunrise. It's an undescribable experience. No one talks. There's complete silence.
