The cathedral is attractive but what makes the visit worthwhile is the people who flock here from all over on a pilgrimage to a site devoted to the first Native American saint. Cynics say it was a church ploy to convert the locals to catholicism. No matter, the devoted, especially mothers and their daughters come here dressed to the nines. They sit on the steep steps leading to the door of the cathedral like color arrangements of flowers strew about on the steps. The photo opportunities are endless since people are very willing to pose for this special occasion. When we were there, we were the only foreigners in sight for the entire time we visited.
