Established in 1839 by John Suttor during the gold rush, Old Town Sacramento is a National Historic Landmark district situated near the Sacramento River.

Notable buildings include:

B.F. Hastings Building - the western terminal of the Pony Express and the first location of the California Supreme Court
Big Four House - a building constructed from the efforts of the Big Four railroad pioneers
Sacramento Engine Company no. 3 - the oldest remaining firehouse in Sacramento

This is a marvel.. very well preserved as it had been in the wild west.. You just feel yourself as in an "western" really! The Saloon.., the river., the steam boat-original one.., nowadays-restaurant with panoramic views on the other bench of the river.. Even the female attendant in the Fargo museum is dressed as one in "Good Old West"..:)

It is pretty cool place. you can go and look and there is shop you can get stuff at. It is a short walk to the state capital if you have not been you should go. It is right on the river front so you can see the river from the shops.

Interesting historic district in Sacramento alongside the Sacramento river, featuring the gold rush era. The area is full of shops, restaurants, museums, showcasing the period. Not a bad place to spend an afternoon.

a blast from the past... Old Town Sacramento allows you to experience the old west and get a feel for what California looked like around the time of the Gold Rush. Well taken care of, Old Town Sacramento is a gem!
