You can have fun in Balboa Park pretty much no matter who you are. There's an awesome gated dog park where dogs are running around having a blast. There are all kinds of museums (which, on some days, are free) including the Museum of Man, the Museum of Natural History, aviation museums, etc. There is a big cactus/wildlife garden thing which not many people seemed to know about, and you can walk all around it. It's just there, it's not a business or anything like that, so it's free also. There are little fish ponds and a botanical museum, really pretty fountains scattered around, and my favorite- a woman who does fortunes for donations in the middle of the park. Occasionally, there are swap meet-type things in one of the buildings, and they hold December Nights there... there are a lot of things to do! Plus, the zoo is right there, too, so you may as well stop by!

This is an amazing park placed at the heart of the city just on the top of a hill so you can see the city pretty well, especially at night when city lights are shining, and where you´ll find more than 10 big museums (if I don´t remember bad) surrounded by greens and woods throughout a big extention of terrain where you can ride your bike, walk or whatever you like. Highly recommendable, but not the onlu place in San Diego. If you go there, you should go to La Joya too.

Absolutely beautiful Spanish architecture and botanical gardens. Do not spend money on the Museum of Man, even though the building looks amazing. The outside is the best and inside is everything you have seen before. Prepare to walk a lot. It is such a beautiful place to visit without having to spend a lot of money. Again, beautiful!

There are quite a few museums and parks all thrown together at Balboa Park. The San Diego Zoo is also part of the complex. There's a beautiful amphitheater as well, and ample picture-taking opportunities.
