Built in the 1800s as a chocolate factory for Ghiradelli chocolates, the square was sold and the operations moved off site. A retail shop - the Ghiradelli Chocolate shop and Soda Fountain is main reminder of the location's history. The square has been converted into a specialty shops and retail area, and a luxury hotel is currently being developed in the area.Ghiradelli square is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

I personally love this area. I loved going and watching them make the chocolate (and eating some afterward). There are other stores and places in the area that are also fun, but the chocolate is certainly the best (get the hot fudge sundae). It's also near one of the stops on the cable cars, so you can easily see some of the SF landmarks.

You have to try the Ghirardelli Sunday...it's fantastic..not too sweet, but just delightful. I like the fact that there are shops inside the complex and it's only a few blocks from the main Warf area. Park in the street...it's cheaper than the parking garage, just watch your meeter...and dont forget the parking brake.

Yes, the city, ocean, and seafood are all great in San Francisco, but I always have to go to Ghirardelli Square when in the city. It's busy and touristy, with lines going out the front door at times, but the sundaes and chocolate are so worth it!

Very nice place to walk around and to do some silly shopping while enjoying the view.

There is a cute little tea room here too. I would like to suggest it to visit and try some.
One of the famous chocolate factories! I love it!

What's not to like. It's been years since I was there. Probably in Middle School. Loved the entire Wharf Area. The chocolate has remained one of my most favorite brands ever...
