Relevant to the roots of the hippie movement/ flower power in the 60's. Specifically, this is the area around the intersection of Haight st. and Ahsbury st. 60's legends like The Grateful Dead, janice joplin all lived around the area.
A fun store to buy hippie psychedelic souvenirs from would be the Ashbury Tobacco Center.

You have to go from where it dead ends at Golden Gate Park (by hippie hill where all the homeless kids still live) all the way to about mid Haight all kinds of touristy type shops but what is really a trip are the people just stop and grab coffee and people watch!

The former centre of the hippie movement. Still today there are too many crazy people to count. Take a few moments of walking through the district and then relax in Golden Gate Park. The atmosphere is just great.
