Definetly a must-see when you are in LA!
The Venice Beach Boardwalk is full of crazy people!
It's a bit like a human zoo, with clowns, people eating swords or muscle men (world famouse muscle beach is located directly at the boardwalk)
Go there on sunday - it the fullest day but also you'll find the most crazy people there on sunday!
And don't go there alone at night because many homeless use to sleep at the beaches!

Very cool, sometimes strange, sometimes peaceful, a great part of the world where lots of people from lots of places walk talk and just belong... Definitely a tourist haven, but you have to go just to say you went there.

Venice Beach, in proximity of Santa Monica, is a fun place to walk on a weekend or ride your bike, like many others do. There is a lot going on any time of the year. I would not recommend it for little kids.

You can take a nice stroll through the Venice Beach Boardwalk and see plenty of vendors, fortune tellers, and street performers, or check out the guys at Muscle Beach.

There are cleaner and prettier beaches in Southern California but most people want to check out Venice anyway.
