Aug 31, 2008 Great for families and kids if they want to know their science and some history. Place always draws a crowd and admission is free. Prepare to be inspected at the door by security. Place is vast with three floors full of neat exhibits from taxidermy to insects to the Ice Age to ocean life among way too many other exhibits. Place has plenty to offer if you're of a Discovery Channel or Animal Planet sort. Be warned, where they get you as far as prices are concerned is with the dining area, which overcharges on everything from cheeseburgers to the oversized ladybug cookie you find by the desserts. I bought a cheeseburger, fries, a coke and said cookie and the total came to 16 bucks! The food was terrible and it's the kind of food you'd buy at a beach stand and they still charge you a ridiculous price! No wonder admission is free. Dec 14, 2009 As other Smithsonian museums, this one is also a must. Reserve few hours to see it. There's a very nice butterfly garden:) May 24, 2011 can be to crowded at times. best to go in the fall before the spring field trip and tourists season kicks into high gear.
