The Washington Monumnent, omnipresent throughout the city, is basically the symbol of the city. Visible from literally everywhere in downtown, this giant marble and granite obelisk, was build to commerate the first US President George Washintgon. One of the tallest structures in the world, it was build to inspire in people the immense pride of being American. True to its vision, this monument is "Made in America" with all the raw materials used in construcThis vision ensured that all the raw materials used to build the monument were sourced from America.
Ofcourse, the shape of the obelisk has often led to riducle in popular media and by feminists that say - 'trust men to make a giant "d**K" to honor themselves'. But jokes aside - it is an architectural marvel and worth walking by ( you can't miss it). There is a museum inside and guided tours are available, but if you are short on time, then a view from the outside is enough.

Amazing views from the top! You can reserve tickets in advance online for a small fee or try to go to the desk in the early am to get a time for a ticket up that day. If you're lucky, you'll get them. From the top, you can see the mall, the White House, the tidal basin, most of the monuments and museums, etc. It is really interesing.

As part of the National Mall, a spectacular sight when you sit at the top of the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and view the Reflecting Pool, Washington Monument and Capitol Building. Makes you proud to be an American.

It's pretty sweet to see this up close and personal. It was kind of funny being in D.C. the first time because you literally can't go anywhere without seeing the Washington Monument somewhere in the background.

Love Washington! It's one of my favorites cities in the US. Maybe thinking about living there someday, although they say that crime rates are really high these days.
