Nestled between the Florida Keys and Miami, is an astounding monument to one man's determination.   Often referred to as America's Stonehenge, the Coral Castle has baffled scientists, engineers and scholars since its opening in 1923.   How did Ed create hand tools from a junk yard to create a nine-ton gate so perfectly balanced?   Did you know it swung open with a touch of a finger?     Top 10 Historic Hot Spots in South Florida!    The Coral Castle has been in the media spotlight for over 50 years: "Life Magazine", to "In Search Of" , "That's Incredible",   "The History Channel", Good Morning America, Don Francisco's   Sabado Gigante   and recently seen on Ancient Aliens. Visit us on Facebook. If you had visited Coral Castle in the 1940s you would have been greeted enthusiastically by a man weighing a mere 100 pounds and standing just over 5 feet tall. He would have asked you for ten cents admission and introduced you to his fantasy world. Since it is documented that no one ever witnessed Ed's labor in building his beloved Coral Castle, some have said he had supernatural powers. Ed would only say that he knew the secrets used to build the ancient pyramids and if he could learn them, you could too. Today, you can tour the Coral Castle with our tour guides. Narration available in English, Spanish, French or German, Japanese, and Russian.   Features of the Coral Castle Museum include a 9-ton gate, a Polaris telescope. one of the most bizarre man-made things I've ever seen - the Coral Castle build by my compatriot, Ed Leedskalnin in Homestead, Florida, at around 1936. Ed left Latvia after his sweetheart Agnes announced the day before their wedding that she would not marry him. apparently he was so distraught that he spent the rest of his life building the Coral Castle - it's a stone structure, an observatory made from coral rocks. the largest stone weighs 29 tons, but according to the locals Ed used only hand-made tools for carving and mooving these rocks. hence the place has been called America's Stonehenge and someone even advanced a theory that Ed was "singing stones in place" - that he levitated them onto his trailer using tonal frequencies...

by the way, Billy Idol's "Sweet Sixteen" is about Ed and Agnes, and the video for the song was also shot here.

Coral Castle is on the National Register of historic places and is truly an amazing place to visit. The story behind the castle is that Edward Leedskalnin, out of obsessed love for a young girl, built this coral monument for her. The question remains, how could he have carved and moved over 1100 tons of rock without any human assistance? Did he know any secrets? Coral Castle has baffled scientists, engineers and scholars since its opening in 1923.

An Amazing Site to see.

It is certainly unique in a strange way. Worth seeing. The kids can climb on the furniture which is made from coral. The door is a puzzle to modern engineers as it is extremely heavy.
