Lookout Point
Observation Point
Wailua Falls is a set waterfalls located in the the Wihua River State park.  It is thought to be around the height of 80 feet, although some guidebooks, such as the Kauai Revealed guidebook state a higher amount.  Depending on the season, the waterfall can be an impressive thunderous  sheet that cascades downards, or a waterfall that breaks down into twin streams.  Once upon a time, warriors would leap off the top off the cliff in order to prove their manhood.  This isn't exactly the smartest idea, as many boulder below meant the ordeal is often fatal.  Warning signs are posted everywhere to remind you as much.  This twin set of waterfalls is situated right beside the road for easy access.  Alternatively, you can hike right to the bottom of the falls.  The access point is located at the rear of the small parking lot, and is a slippery, steep hike downwards.  The falls are best viewed in the early morning.

We stopped here after a helicopter tour, so the falls had a lot to live up to :-) It's a brief (5-10 min) drive from the highway so it's worth checking out even if you might not be that interested. The vantage point has too much brush obscuring a clean view of the falls. I understand not clearing endangered plant and animal species from the area but this is just yard trash getting in the way. Don't get me wrong - you can see them plain as day - but pictures won't come out all that well. I think we stopped there a total of 3 minutes.

It was billed as one of the most accessible waterfalls on the island. Lazy as I was feeling, it seemed a good bet.

The falls were pretty, but I guess I've seen too many waterfalls, so I didn't find it that spectacular. Then again, it was probably fairly dry when I went, so the waterfall may not have been at its full glory. It's so easy to get to though it's worth a visit. :)
