The Albany whaling station is a remnant of the whaling past of this area... apparently when it was in operation the whole area stunk to high heaven. They still have some of the guns they used to spear the whales with and stories from the locals... quite a dangerous occupation apparently. It is now all cleaned up and tourists can have alook around. The locals are still quite a rural lot... mostly friendly country folk.

This is definitely worth a visit as it is quite historically interesting and will give you a better understanding of exactly what was involved in the whaling industry.
